Serge Gainsbourg
Mauvaises Nouvelles Des Étoiles
Originally released in 1981, Mauvaises Nouvelles des Étoiles is Serge Gainsbourg’s thirteenth studio album, reissued on vinyl in 1987 by the Attitude label (ATT 54). Following in the footsteps of Aux Armes et cætera (1979), Gainsbourg continues his deep immersion into reggae, once again recording at the legendary Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, backed by some of the finest musicians from the local scene.
While he fully embraces the laid-back rhythms and rootsy aesthetic of Jamaican reggae, Gainsbourg never loses his essence: decadent lyrics, layered wordplay, literary references, and his signature double entendres. The album is more subdued and introspective than Aux Armes..., but just as rich in poetic twists and murky atmospheres.
