A special double header of 2 very very dope Danny Krivit edits from then Sleeping Bag / Fresh Records vaults.Dinosaur L's immense 'Go Bang' takes up the A-side, with Mr.K tweaking the classic Walter Gibbons version into new sonic realms. Thoroughly minimal and spaced out in all the best ways and with a tense build-up, 'Go Bang' winds and winds until it feels like it's going to break! A brilliant reworking of a stone-cold classic that brings a fresh style to the familiar. On side B we are treated to a killer downtempo drum machine laden boogie-rap jam, namely the stellar Larry Levan mix of Hanson & Davis' 'I'll Take You On' from '86. Some primetime Garage sounds right here. A deep soulful cut that kicks and slams in all the right places, and is of course, touched up the right way by Danny's deft editing. Essential business right here, for real music lovers and dancers alike!Remastered, re-edited and re-presented to you for 2020, courtesy of Danny Krivit, Sleeping Bag / Fresh Records and Above Board distribution. 100% legit!
Sameed brilliantly join the dots between dusty disco samples cut 'n paste frenzy and jackin' house on 'Old Songs'.Don't let the name scare you though, these are timeless joints. The jazzy interlude 'Quarterback' sets things off perfectly with its mellow strings followed by 'Join The Party', an uplifting slice of drivin' soul.On the flip Sameed continues the roof-raising treatment with 'Horns N Tht', last but not least Sameed gives us a chi- town inspired track, 'Walkin', proper dirt...
Not just a super-rare set of dreamy soul jazz but also a neat piece of independent label history: JSR were a Jersey-based imprint with an open source attitude to their business, allowing ambitious young musicians their first break contract-free (albeit with limited pressings) In 1980 Coleman took them up on the offer, played most of the instruments himself and even designed the artwork: Taking Care Of Business is quite a literal title. It's literally brilliant, too; just check the Shuggy style vocal leans on "Due Consideration" or the swooning Roy Ayers style vibraphone magic of "Sweet Bird" and you'll see exactly what we mean. Stunning.
