For some time now French label Fragil Musique has played a role in providing a safe haven for a diverse blend of genres, and their next chapter proves they mean to move forward in the same manner. The 26th release on the label is fronted by 95 Steps his aptly named “Sunsize” EP lands 22nd of June on wax and digital. Three classy cuts constructed upon deep and emotional yet danceable narratives, crafted for the fond memories that will be made in the long and warm months ahead.Chunky broken drums and snappy electro arrangements set the tone of the EP in “95 Sunset”, a plucky bass line cruises blissfully around the glitchy body of the track. A distinctive trip taking up the whole of the A side, brightening up the dance floor with the shimmering synths and pads.On the flip side 95 Steps has put together “Things Change”, blurring the lines between garage and electro, tasteful and pacy drums converse with the elasticated groove, the driving force of the track. “Doesn’t Matter” closes off the EP fantastically, the track becomes full of life and energy but still you find yourself slipping into the melt in your mind elements that surround you.Versatile sounds once more from the innovative label, surrounded by amazing music on Yoyaku’s distribution. 95 Steps presents three beautiful and cohesive tracks, maintaining this emotional sunset theme throughout. I believe its some kind of Japanese spiritual techno music. It has a profound effect on me.I can hear Larry Heard and Herbie Hancock jamming with the Yellow Magic Orchestra .The musical expression ranges from romantic ambient over to mellow blue electro, wild drum & bass and early trance.This 4 track ep is a continuation of “The Sound There”.
