A sophisticated blend of soul, jazz, and smooth disco, Secret Combination is one of the most successful albums from American vocalist Randy Crawford.

Released in 1981 on Warner Bros. Records, the album arrived during Crawford’s European peak, where her elegant voice and jazz-influenced phrasing earned her a particularly strong following.

The record is best known for the hit single "You Might Need Somebody", a smooth soul classic built around a memorable melody, sophisticated arrangements, and Crawford’s warm, expressive vocal delivery. The album as a whole balances romantic ballads, polished funk grooves, and refined jazz-pop influences.

Unlike the more aggressive disco productions of the late 1970s, Secret Combination represents the early-80s evolution toward smoother, more sophisticated soul. The production emphasizes lush keyboards, tasteful guitar work, subtle rhythms, and detailed arrangements that leave space for Crawford’s voice.

The album fits naturally alongside artists such as George Benson, Al Jarreau, and Sade, bridging the worlds of jazz, R&B, and adult contemporary music.

For vinyl collectors, Secret Combination remains a highly appreciated record for its excellent musicianship, warm production, and timeless vocal performances.

A beautiful early-80s soul album—classy, melodic, and driven by one of the most recognizable voices in jazz-pop.
